Vanadis 4 Extra (Uddeholm/Voestalpine) is a powder metallurgy Cr-Mo-V cold work steel. PM processing gives ultra-fine, uniformly distributed carbides (3-5 um vs 30-60 um in conventional D2) — 3-4x better wear resistance than D2 at same hardness, plus significantly better toughness. Standard for high-speed progressive stamping dies in automotive and electronics manufacturing where D2 has insufficient tool life.
